Special AVI Meeting March 14

With Council President Darrell Clarke, Councilman Mark Squilla, and reps from OPA and BRT

Come out Thursday, March 14, 7PM, to St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Church (NE corner 4th & Fairmount) for a special community meeting on AVI, the city's new property tax system. Ask questions, raise concerns, and learn about:

Legislative options City Council can take to help property owners deal with tax increases
The "first level review" appeal process with the Office of Property Asssessment
The second-level, formal appeal process with the Board of Revision of Taxes

Our two Councilmen, as well as city tax officials, are going all over the city to community meetings - so don't miss this chance to make your voice heard to them, here in Northern Liberties.

And remember - the meeting is not in our usual space, but it's right down the street at the church.

This Just In: City of Philadelphia Hosting Important Public Meeting on AVI at Shiloh Baptist, March 13 6-9 PM

Dear neighbors:

By now, all neighbors should have received new property assessments from the City.  Those assessments have prompted many many questions and concerns.  In response, on Wednesday the Mayor announced a new round of public "technical assistance" meetings around the City. Late yesterday SOSNA received confirmation that one such meeting will take place next Wednesday, March 13 from 6-9 PM at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 2040 Christian Street. Details below.

Please note that this is different from the meeting SOSNA hosted in January.  Instead of a panel discussion, the meeting on March 13 will be an opportunity for you to meet one-on-one with City officials to discuss your specific questions and concerns about your assessment and taxes.  Please spread the word to friends and neighbors.

Also, we're off to a great start in our goal to raise $2,500 for the Catharine Park Project by March 31st so that we can trigger the matching donation from David G. Orphanides and Associates, P.C. Please donate today to support the Park! Remember an $150 donation gets you an engraved brick! Thanks to all who have contributed and supported this park.

Lastly, SOSNA is currently out of blue recycling bins - hopefully the City will replenish our stock next week. Apologies!

DIG Philadelphia Commercial Sub Group - March 2013 (AVI and CCIM)

A very hot topic has been added to the Philadelphia Commercial Sub-Group on Tuesday Night. During these cold winter months the property reassessments and how they will affect property taxes with the new Actual Value Initiative or AVI. The city has recalculated the value of all its taxable land. There will be winners and there will be losers, and the suspense is about to end as the new property assessments are in the mail. Some homeowners have already gotten them - others are still waiting. Predictions, however, say taxes could end up doubling for some. We will have an expert legal counsel in regards to this subject start the meeting, Michael Mattioni Esq. and his focus of his practice is on corporate and other business organizations, real estate, land use and zoning, taxation and estate planning.
